This year’s Sensor + Test, the leading international trade show for measurement technology that will be held in Nuremberg from 30 May to 1 June 2017, will focus on “Networked Measurement Technology for Mobile Applications”. Reliable high-precision measurements and global data availability are essential prerequisites to implementing the complex production concepts called for by Industrie 4.0.
The contribution from Beckhoff, in line with the show’s motto, will be its recently introduced series of high-speed precision measurement technology equipment. The high-performance EtherCAT measurement modules facilitate a level of precision as regards timing, measurement, synchronisation and long-term measuring accuracy that was previously possible only with cost-intensive special equipment. The analog input terminals of the EtherCAT Terminal system enable measurement functions to be directly integrated into PC-based control technology from Beckhoff. In line with Industrie 4.0 and IoT, recorded measurement data can also be centrally correlated via networks or cloud systems. With TwinCAT IoT, Beckhoff provides a software library for secure communication with cloud systems, which facilitates device-independent and location-independent access to measured data. TwinCAT Analytics supports the storage and analysis of measured data in cloud systems, making it easy to identify and document significant features of the signals. To supplement the PLC and C/C++ programming interface, the established programming language MATLAB®/Simulink®, which is much used both in science, and in measurement and control technology, is also integrated into TwinCAT 3.
